What are the household deadlines in Switzerland? The calendar from November 2026 to December 2027
To switch health insurer on 1 January 2027, your cancellation of basic health insurance must reach the insurer by 30 November 2026 (Federal Office of Public Health, priminfo); insurers announce the 2027 premiums by 31 October. On 1 December the Federal Office for Housing publishes the reference interest rate for rents (then every three months), and 31 December is the last day to have a payment credited to pillar 3a and deduct it for the same year (Federal Social Insurance Office). The Serafe invoice arrives in the month of your billing group, and cantonal dates vary. The calendar runs from November 2026 to December 2027 and is based on official pages viewed on 14 October 2026.

Which deadlines does a Swiss household have during the year?
Five kinds come back every year (health insurance, reference rate, Serafe, vignette, pillar 3a), plus those your canton sets. For health insurance the cancellation must reach the insurer by 30 November, and the date of receipt counts, not the postmark; if the last day is a Saturday, a Sunday or a public holiday, the last working day before it applies. A late cancellation takes effect at the next possible date, and debts for which you received a reminder by 30 November and that are still open on 31 December block the switch (priminfo).

Deadlines that depend on your canton
Some dates are set by your canton or your municipality and differ from place to place.
- Taxes: the cantons assess and collect the direct federal tax (FTA); for the tax return date, the tax bills and payment in instalments, contact the tax administration of your canton.
- Health insurance premium reduction: the cantons decide who is entitled and how to apply; priminfo lists the office of each canton.
How to avoid forgetting them
Your phone’s calendar is enough if you use it with a method:
- Copy the dates that concern you from the table and add those of your canton.
- Set two reminders per date: for health insurance, for example, 1 November (premiums known) and 15 November (recommended posting by registered letter).
- Note the month of your Serafe invoice and the payment deadline.
- Put amounts and dates on the same sheet as your other fixed costs; for December there is the guide to the 13th salary.
Fixed costs and groceries: the monthly sum
Start by putting the dates that concern you in your calendar and the fixed amounts on a sheet that you compare every month with your account (see the guide to reducing fixed costs). Groceries, by contrast, have no deadline: they change every week. For those you can use Rappn, a free Swiss app (iOS and Android) that compares the current promotions of seven Swiss retailers and turns receipts into a spending overview: the app sorts your purchases into categories, shows your spending by month next to your own monthly average and alerts you when a product you follow goes on offer. Rappn does not cover rent, insurance or taxes, and does not remind you of deadlines. Rappn is building an AI assistant for groceries: you can join the waitlist.

Frequently Asked Questions
By when do I cancel my health insurance?
For basic insurance the notice must reach your insurer by 30 November to switch on 1 January; the date of receipt counts, not the postmark. The Federal Office of Public Health recommends sending it by registered letter by 15 November. Insurers must announce next year’s premiums by 31 October (priminfo.admin.ch, October 2026).
When does the Serafe invoice arrive?
It depends on your billing group: each household was assigned at random to one of twelve groups, the first receives the annual invoice in January, the second in February, and so on. It is due within 60 days, a quarterly invoice within 30; the fee is CHF 335 in 2026 and CHF 312 from 1 January 2027 (Serafe AG, OFCOM, October 2026).
By when do I pay into pillar 3a?
The payment must be credited to your pillar 3a account by 31 December of the current year at the latest for the deduction to count for that same year (FSIO). Anyone with earned income can pay in at most CHF 7'258 for 2026 with a second pillar, or 20% of income up to CHF 36'288 without one; for 2027 the maximums, published by the FTA on 5 October 2026, are CHF 7'373 and CHF 36'864 (FSIO, FTA, October 2026).
When does the reference interest rate change?
It can change at each publication of the Federal Office for Housing: 1 December 2026, then 1 March, 1 June, 1 September and 1 December 2027. It has been 1.25% since 2 September 2025 and the office confirmed it on 1 September 2026 (Federal Office for Housing, October 2026).
Does Rappn remind me of deadlines?
No: health insurance, rent, Serafe, vignette and tax deadlines are not part of Rappn, which only covers groceries and alerts you when a product you follow goes on offer. Rappn is building an AI assistant for groceries: you can join the waitlist.
