Cos d'Estournel is one of the most important wines of Saint-Estèphe and has been classified as a 2ème Grand Cru Classé since the Bordeaux classification of 1855. The Grand Vin of the traditional Château combines the power and structure characteristic of Saint-Estèphe with extraordinary elegance and finesse. Cabernet Sauvignon forms the backbone of the cuvée and is supplemented by Merlot as well as small proportions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The result is a profound and complex Bordeaux with intense dark fruit, fine spice and remarkable freshness. The silky tannins, the precise structure and the very long finish give it great harmony. Despite its concentration, the wine never seems heavy and has excellent aging potential.
