Wine deals in Switzerland: the promo rhythm of Denner, Coop, Aldi and Lidl at a glance

Wine is one of the most frequently discounted categories in Swiss supermarkets. Denner promotes around five to six wines every week, at times up to 50% off. Coop runs wine waves in its Thursday cycle plus Mondovino fairs with volume discounts. Aldi and Lidl rotate wine offers on Mondays and Thursdays, Otto's and Aligro add carton deals. Migros itself sells no alcohol.

Sources checked regularly: denner.ch (wine shop and wine deals, as of July 2026), the Denner press release on the Thursday promo start (February 2026, confirmed by 20 Minuten and foodaktuell.ch), NZZ "Weine bei Denner & Co.", Falstaff, Blick citing the Schweizerische Weinzeitung, mondovino.ch, coop.ch, the Migros statement on the 2022 alcohol vote, aldi-suisse.ch, lidl.ch, ottos.ch and aligro.ch. Which chains discount wine, and on what rhythm?

A large share of the wine sold in Switzerland moves through the big retailers. Trade press ranks Coop as the country's largest wine retailer, closely followed by Denner, and according to NZZ roughly every sixth bottle bought in Switzerland passes a Denner till (sources: NZZ, Falstaff, Blick citing the Schweizerische Weinzeitung). For bargain hunting that means the deepest wine discounts almost always follow these promo cycles.

ChainPromo rhythmTypical wine mechanics
DennerThursday to Wednesday, preview from MondayAround 5 to 6 wines per week, at times up to 50% or half price, carton discounts
CoopThursday to WednesdayWine deals in the weekly wave, Mondovino fairs with 20% from 12 bottles
Aldi SuisseNew deals Mondays and ThursdaysRotating wine offers within the weekly waves
LidlNew deals Mondays and ThursdaysRotating offers on red, white and sparkling wines
Otto'sContinuously changing weekly hitsBatch lots and catalogue prices on wine
AligroRegular promotionsWholesale prices, wine deals and per-carton pricing in the wine cellar
MigrosNo alcohol salesWithin the Migros group, wine is sold via Denner and migrolino

One thing that often surprises newcomers: Migros supermarkets sell no alcohol at all. In 2022 all ten regional cooperatives voted against lifting the alcohol ban that dates back to 1928 (source: Migros press release, SRF). Within the Migros group, wine is therefore sold through the subsidiary Denner and through migrolino.

Denner: the weekly rhythm of the wine discounter

According to trade press, Denner is Switzerland's second largest wine retailer, with around 300 wines in its range and, by its own account, roughly five to six wines at promo prices each week (sources: Falstaff, NZZ). Since 5 February 2026, Denner deals start on Thursday and run until the Wednesday of the following week, and the Wochenend-Knaller weekend deal now lasts four days instead of two (source: Denner press release, 20 Minuten, foodaktuell.ch, February 2026). The following week's deals appear on denner.ch from Monday, so you can plan a wine purchase before Thursday.

Depending on the week, the wine promotions reach discounts of up to 50% or classic half-price formats, with rotating origins from Swiss wines to Italy, France and overseas (source: denner.ch wine deals, as of July 2026). On top of that, the online wine shop regularly runs discounts that apply when you buy full 6-bottle cartons. For the full promo cycle, see our guide to the Denner deals this week.

Coop: wine waves, Mondovino and volume discounts

Coop's promotion week has run Thursday to Wednesday since January 2025 (source: Coop press release, foodaktuell.ch). Wine features in it regularly, and coop.ch keeps a permanent section of wines on promotion. Then there is the Mondovino wine programme with club offers and wine fairs: according to mondovino.ch, a 20% volume discount applies from 12 bottles or from CHF 1,000 of purchases, champagne and rarities excluded, and entry is free with the Supercard.

In practice that means Coop wine gets most interesting when you buy in volume or catch a wave. Whether the promo price really is the best of the week only shows in a neutral cross-check against Denner, Aldi and Lidl.

Aldi, Lidl, Otto's and Aligro: the rotation beyond the big two

Aldi Suisse and Lidl release their new deals on Mondays and Thursdays, and wine rotates through those weekly waves regularly (sources: aldi-suisse.ch, lidl.ch, as of July 2026). Neither communicates a fixed wine rhythm, but changing single offers on red, white and sparkling wines are common and can be priced very sharply.

Otto's runs a dedicated wine section next to its supermarket range, with continuously changing lots at reduced prices (source: ottos.ch). Aligro, the cash and carry wholesaler, lists over 1,000 wines plus around 200 champagnes and sparkling wines in its cellar and runs its own wine promotions, often priced per carton (source: aligro.ch). For parties, apéros and stocking up, it pays to look beyond the classic supermarkets.

Understanding multi-buy mechanics: the carton beats the single bottle

Many Swiss wine discounts are volume mechanics: tiered prices from a certain number of bottles, discounts per 6-bottle carton, or fair discounts from 12 bottles. Depending on the chain and the week, formats like 2+1 can appear as well. So always break the maths down to the price per bottle and compare that number, not the discount percentage. A big percentage off a high starting price can still cost more than the regular shelf price next to it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Swiss supermarket has the best wine deals?

No chain wins every week. Denner promotes around five to six wines weekly, at times up to 50% off, Coop runs wine waves plus Mondovino volume discounts, and Aldi and Lidl rotate offers on Mondays and Thursdays. The lowest price depends on the bottle and the week, so a neutral live comparison in Rappn pays off.

When do Denner wine deals start?

Since 5 February 2026, Denner deals start on Thursday and run until the Wednesday of the following week, and the weekend deal now lasts four days (source: Denner press release, 20 Minuten, foodaktuell.ch). The following week's deals appear on denner.ch from Monday.

Is Denner Switzerland's biggest wine retailer?

Trade press ranks Coop as the country's largest wine retailer, with Denner a close second. According to NZZ, roughly every sixth bottle bought in Switzerland passes a Denner till, from a range of around 300 wines (sources: NZZ, Falstaff, Blick citing the Schweizerische Weinzeitung).

How does the Coop Mondovino volume discount work?

At Coop wine fairs, according to mondovino.ch, a 20% volume discount applies from 12 bottles or from CHF 1,000 of purchases, champagne and rarities excluded. Entry to the fair is free with the Supercard, and Mondovino Club members get changing offers on top.

Why does Migros have no wine deals?

Migros supermarkets have sold no alcohol since 1928, and in 2022 all ten regional cooperatives voted against lifting that ban (source: Migros press release, SRF). Within the Migros group, wine is sold through the subsidiary Denner and through migrolino.

Is buying wine by the 6-bottle carton worth it?

Often yes, because many discounts at Denner, Coop and Aligro apply per carton or from a minimum quantity. What matters is the per-bottle price after the discount: work it out and compare it against the other chains' current deals before you carry a whole carton home.
