How Denner deals work in Switzerland: Thursday to Wednesday, preview on Wednesday

Updated regularly. Denner is the Swiss discounter best known for wine and for sharp weekly promotions. This is an evergreen guide to how the Denner Aktionen cycle works, how the famous Weinkeller (wine cellar) operates, and how the Denner app and its promotion alarm point you to deals. The specific prices this week change constantly, so instead of inventing a number that is wrong tomorrow, we point you to the current offers in Rappn at the end.

Rappn is an independent grocery price-comparison app in Switzerland, with no commercial agreement with any retailer.

When do Denner deals start this week?

The Denner promotion cycle runs Thursday to Wednesday. On denner.ch the overview is titled "Aktionen ab Donnerstag" (deals from Thursday); Denner names no fixed day from which the following week is online (checked 25 September 2026). The reliable way to plan ahead is the printed Denner Woche, which arrives with the Migros-Magazin on Wednesday, one day before the start. Since 5 February 2026, Denner and Migros promotions also start on Thursday instead of Tuesday and run to the Wednesday of the following week (source: denner.ch press release "Denner verschiebt Aktionsstart auf Donnerstag", plus 20 Minuten and foodaktuell.ch, 26 January 2026). The stated reason is changed shopping behaviour, with many customers now doing their big shop at the weekend, and as a result the Wochenend-Knaller now lasts four days instead of two. The discounters Aldi and Lidl work differently, releasing new deals on Mondays and Thursdays. So a neutral weekly cross-check across chains is still worth it.

If you want to know whether another chain has the same product on offer this week, you need a neutral cross-check. That is what Rappn is built for: the current deals of all seven chains in one place. Compare the Denner deals this week directly with the deals of the other chains.

How does the Denner wine cellar (Weinkeller) work?

Wine is the heart of Denner. According to the NZZ, every sixth bottle of wine bought in Switzerland goes over the counter at Denner (source: NZZ, "Weine bei Denner & Co."). The range covers around 300 wines focused on the mid-price segment, and Denner says it offers roughly five to six wines a week at promotional prices (source: Falstaff). The handy Denner wine guide (Weinführer) is free to download and available in store.

The entire wine range can be ordered through the online shop and the app and delivered to your home. The first wines produced to the IP-SUISSE sustainability standard are available exclusively at Denner, showing the discounter also backs sustainable viticulture (source: denner.ch). Depending on the week, wine deals reach discounts up to 50% or classic half-price offers (source: denner.ch wine promotions, as of June 2026), with origins rotating from Swiss wines through Italy and France to South Africa and Chile.

What does the Denner app and promotion alarm do?

The Denner app is free and bundles deals, the wine shop and store information. Its core feature is the promotion alarm (Aktionsalarm): you save your favourite products and the app notifies you as soon as a discount runs on them, including weekend specials and wine deals (source: denner.ch/de/services/app). The share function lets you pass a deal to someone in one tap. On top of that: weekly deals, wine deals and weekend specials in one view, next week's promotions from Thursday, a wishlist with reminders, a shareable shopping list, a store finder with route planning and a saved home store, and a direct ordering path for the whole wine range.

What the app does not do matters just as much: Denner offers no coupons and no app-exclusive discounts (source: denner.ch/de/services/app, as of September 2026). The promotional price is the same at the till for everyone, app or no app. The important neutral point: Denner's app shows only Denner. Whether another chain has the same product on offer only shows in a cross-check. Check in Rappn whether the best grocery deals this week are at Denner or another chain; the chain comparisons are in the price comparison section.

How good are Denner's promotions really? Discount quality, checked

As of July 2026. "Discount quality" means: how much real saving is inside a deal? Four criteria decide it: true discount depth against the everyday price, breadth of rotation, honest reference prices, and availability. On the honesty of crossed-out prices, Switzerland's federal Price Indication Ordinance applies: a "statt" (instead-of) price must be a genuine price previously charged (source: SECO, Price Indication Ordinance). That applies to Denner as to every other chain.

The honest overall verdict: on wine, Denner regularly offers deep discounts; across the rest of the range the depth swings with the week and the category, as at every chain. A blanket "Denner has the best deals" would be unserious. In Rappn you see the current Denner deals of the week next to those of Migros, Coop, Aldi, Lidl, Aligro and Otto's and spot, product by product, whether another chain has the same product on offer.

Denner's discount positioning

Denner positions itself as a Swiss discounter with a deliberately small, low-priced range. The focus is wine, spirits, tobacco and Swiss brands at low prices, rounded out by an everyday core assortment. To use the deals cleverly, combine the weekly percentage promotions with the app's promotion alarm. To see whether another chain has the same product on offer, still compare across the chains. In Rappn you see this week's deals from Denner and six other retailers, free and neutral. Download Rappn and check today's Denner deals before you head out.
