How Coop deals work in Switzerland: Thursday start, Hammer, Supercard

Updated regularly. Coop's promotion week has started on Thursday and runs through the following Wednesday since January 2025 (source: Coop press release, confirmed by foodaktuell.ch, January 2025). On top of the weekly Aktionen come the Wochenend-Hits over the weekend, the Wochenstart-Hits from Monday to Wednesday, the permanently cheap Prix Garantie own-brand line, and the Supercard with app coupons and Superpunkte multipliers. This guide explains how the system works so you can keep track of the deals.

What day do Coop deals start each week?

Coop changed its promotion days in early 2025. Previously the price deals began on Tuesday; now they start on Thursday and run until Wednesday of the following week. So any "from Tuesday" label you still see on some third-party flyer sites is outdated. The Coopzeitung newspaper that carries the new offers has also moved to Thursday from Tuesday (source: Coop press release, foodaktuell.ch, January 2025).

At Coop the words "Hammer" and "Super-Wochenende" signal the loudest, often short-lived promo prices. This is exactly where comparison pays off most, because a Coop hammer price is not automatically cheaper than the same product at another retailer.

A good habit before a big shop: quickly check in Rappn whether Migros, Aldi, Lidl or Denner has the same product on offer this week, and at what unit price.

How do the Supercard, Superpunkte and app coupons work?

The Supercard is Coop's free loyalty programme. You collect Superpunkte on every purchase, and 100 Superpunkte are worth roughly CHF 1.00, so one point is about one rappen (source: supercard.ch, moneyland.ch). The biggest lever sits in the digital coupons inside the Supercard app.

• Multiplier coupons: with 5x or 10x Superpunkte coupons you collect several times the points. You activate these in the app and redeem them at the till with your Supercard (source: supercard.ch).
• Personal discount coupons: the app shows product-specific discounts tailored to your shopping habits.
• Redeeming points: collected Superpunkte can be turned into vouchers or used to pay directly at Coop with points.

Note: multiplier coupons are usually not combinable with other discounts, and each coupon is single-use. Superpunkte are a loyalty bonus, but they do not lower the shelf price. For a pure price comparison what counts is the effective promo price, and you see it in Rappn next to the deals of the other chains.

What is Prix Garantie, Coop's cheapest line?

Prix Garantie is Coop's budget own-brand, with around 1,500 products at permanently low prices; Coop said on 17 February 2026 that it wants to grow the range to 1,800 to 2,000 articles in the medium term (CEO Philipp Wyss, via watson.ch). That is a target, not a state reached. These are not weekly deals but a permanently cheap line, comparable to M-Budget at Migros. A K-Tipp comparison found that expanding Prix Garantie noticeably lowered Coop's basket, though on average the lowest prices still sit at Aldi and Lidl (source: K-Tipp).

Practical tip: Prix Garantie is worth it for staples, but check product by product, because sometimes a branded item on promotion beats the budget equivalent. That is exactly what a neutral price comparison is for.

How good are Coop's promotions really? Discount quality, checked

As of July 2026. "Discount quality" means: how much real saving is inside a deal? Four criteria decide it: true discount depth against the everyday price, breadth of rotation, honest reference prices, and availability. On the honesty of crossed-out prices, Switzerland's federal Price Indication Ordinance applies: a "statt" (instead-of) price must be a genuine price previously charged (source: SECO, Price Indication Ordinance). That applies to Coop as to every other chain.

The honest overall verdict: in promo weeks Coop can be very sharp on branded products, but across the whole range, discount quality swings with the week and the category, and the points layer is a bonus, not a price advantage. A blanket "Coop has the best deals" would be unserious.
