Volg in Switzerland: Promotions, Prices and Opening Hours

Volg promotions start on Monday, not on Tuesday. Volg says so on its own promotions page: the fresh-produce promotions («Frische-Aktionen») start on Wednesday and all other promotions on Monday, with both running through Saturday (volg.ch, Wochenaktionen, retrieved 3 August 2026). For the week of 3 August 2026 the blocks were dated «Mi. 05.08. bis Sa. 08.08.» and «Mo. 03.08. bis Sa. 08.08.». That puts Volg out of step with the big chains, which have all started their weekly promotions on Thursday since 5 February 2026.

Do Volg promotions start on Tuesday?

No. "Volg promotions from Tuesday" is a common search, but Tuesday plays no part in the Volg week at all. The rule the retailer publishes is unambiguous: fresh-produce promotions start Wednesday, everything else starts Monday, and both blocks end on Saturday. Nothing new begins at Volg on a Sunday, and nothing begins on a Tuesday either.

The French site confirms the same week with the same dates — «Actions fraîcheur mer. 05.08. au sam. 08.08.» and «Actions Volg lun. 03.08. au sam. 08.08.». In practice that gives you two moments to check: detergent, coffee, drinks and sweets on Monday; meat, cheese, fruit and vegetables on Wednesday, with four selling days still to run.

When do promotions start at Volg, Migros, Coop, Aldi and Lidl?

The Volg Monday is what makes a village week plannable in a different way from a big-chain week. Migros, Coop and Denner have started their weekly promotions on Thursday since 5 February 2026, while Aldi Suisse and Lidl Schweiz drop offers on Monday and on Thursday.

The last column is the honest one: Volg is not currently among the seven chains Rappn compares, which are Migros, Coop, Aldi Suisse, Lidl, Denner, Aligro and Otto's. What that means for you is below.

Who owns Volg?

Volg is owned by fenaco. volg.ch states that Volg Konsumwaren AG, headquartered in Oberwinterthur, belongs to the fenaco group, which was formed in 1993 through the merger of six agricultural cooperative federations. On fenaco.com the owner describes Volg as being «im Dorf daheim» — at home in the village — «mit seinen rund 580 Läden in der Deutsch- und Westschweiz».

Volg is therefore not a private-equity-owned chain but part of a cooperative group carried by Swiss agriculture, and that shows in the range. Per volg.ch, Volg generates 75 percent of its revenue with Swiss food and 84 percent with fresh products, from around 5,000 articles per shop.

On the numbers it pays to name the source. The media release of 29 January 2026 reports exactly 593 village shops for 2025 (595 the year before) and group revenue of CHF 1.795 billion against CHF 1.772 billion, up 1.3 percent. The figures on fenaco.com ("around 580" shops, 934 supplied outlets against 907 on volg.ch) are rounded or differently drawn counts for the same group. What are Volg opening hours?

There is no single Volg opening time. Every shop sets its own, and the spread is wide. On 3 August 2026 we opened the store detail pages of eight Volg shops on volg.ch and copied their hours for the week of 3 to 9 August 2026. This is a sample of eight out of roughly 600 shops, not a chain-wide rule.

Three patterns come out of those eight cases. First, early starts: six of the eight open before 07:30, with Aadorf and Kandersteg opening at 06:00 — far earlier than a typical city supermarket. Second, the midday break is alive: Zuoz, Adelboden and Bever close over lunch, the other five do not. Third, Sunday is possible but not a given: four of the eight were open on Sunday 9 August 2026 — Kandersteg, Scuol, Morgins and Zuoz, all in holiday regions — and the other four were closed.

Is Volg more expensive than Migros or Coop?

Here we are deliberately cautious. We have no current, independent basket survey comparing Volg with Migros or Coop that we were able to verify, so we publish no percentage. A number without a checkable source would be worse for you than no number at all.

What is documented is the structure behind the question. volg.ch describes Volg as the specialist for village shops and small formats, carrying around 5,000 articles per shop; a big-chain supermarket carries a multiple of that on a multiple of the floor space. Small footprint and daily fine-grained distribution to a very large number of small shops are cost drivers that behave the same way for village retail everywhere. That is business economics, not a criticism.

And for many Volg customers the comparison is not the right question anyway. If the nearest big-chain supermarket is a twenty-minute drive away, you are not weighing shelf price against shelf price; you are weighing it against fuel, time and the odds of buying something else on the way.

How to actually save money at Volg

Three levers are documented and usable straight away.

First, the weekly promotions. The discounts are not token. In the week of 3 to 8 August 2026, volg.ch listed among others Plenty kitchen roll (8 rolls) at CHF 8.80 instead of 14.80, a 40 percent cut; Ariel Universal liquid 1.125 l at CHF 11.50 instead of 16.50 (30 percent); Evian 6 × 1.5 l at CHF 5.10 instead of 7.80 (34 percent); Frisco extrême cones, 6-pack, at CHF 9.50 instead of 12.70 (25 percent); and Swiss Ramati tomatoes at CHF 3.70 instead of 4.95 per kilo (25 percent). These are dated promotion prices from a single week, not standing prices.

Second, the unit prices. Volg prints a unit price next to every promoted article, for example «(100 g = 1.87)» or «(100 ml = 1.03)». That is the only figure that lets you compare two differently sized packs honestly — and it is exactly the figure Rappn surfaces for the seven chains it compares.

Third, the «Immerno guet» bag. Per the Volg media release of 19 June 2025, shops fill a paper carrier bag with perfectly edible unrefrigerated goods — fruit, vegetables, the previous evening's bread — and hand it over at a flat price of CHF 2.95, «in allen rund 600 Volg-Läden in der Deutschschweiz und Westschweiz», and explicitly with no smartphone, no registration and no pre-order. David Krummenacher of the sales management explains the selection by noting that «rund zwei Drittel der Lebensmittelverluste» — about two thirds of food losses — fall on bread, baked goods, fruit and vegetables.

On top of that sits the own-label tier: the Volg Familienpreis line, described by volg.ch as the "big family of small prices", covers around 80 everyday articles in larger quantities and simplified packaging.

Is Volg worth it for you? It depends

It depends on your distance, your week and your basket. For fresh shopping in the village, bread at six in the morning and a Sunday in a holiday region, Volg is often the only realistic option — and then shelf price is secondary. For the big weekly shop with store-cupboard items, drinks and detergent, the promotion cycle decides, and that changes every week. Rather than guess: look at the current promotions live in Rappn.
