How do you turn on Gemini’s connected apps, and what does Gemini see?
To connect Google Keep or Google Calendar to Gemini, add the Google Workspace app under Customize > Connectors with “Add” and keep “Keep Activity” on; to disconnect it, choose “More options” > “Disconnect” (Google, 21 October 2026). Google calls the feature “Connected Apps”. With “Keep Activity” on, chats stay in your Activity for 18 months by default (you can also choose 3 or 36 months, or no auto-delete); with the setting off, they are kept for 72 hours (Gemini Apps Privacy Hub, last updated 19 October 2026).

You manage them under Customize > Connectors with “Add” and “Disconnect”; for Keep and Calendar you need the Google Workspace app, and “Keep Activity” must be on. What are Gemini’s connected apps?
They are links between Gemini and other apps: with your permission, Gemini looks up information in those apps and can help you take actions, such as editing your content (Google, 21 October 2026). Google calls the feature “Connected Apps” (not “extensions”) and the menu entry is “Connectors”. For groceries the app that matters most is Google Workspace, which includes Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Keep and Google Tasks, among others. Custom apps run on MCP, the open standard that connects assistants to services; Google documents them today only for adults in the US, in English.
This is the Rappn home screen: loyalty cards, lists and the products you follow on one screen, without connecting anything to an assistant. Tap the tabs to see the offers.

How do you turn them on and off?
The route Google describes (21 October 2026); menus can change.
- Sign in with your Google Account at gemini.google.com or in the Gemini app.
- Check “Keep Activity”: from age 18 it is on by default, and if it is off, Google Workspace is not available; turn it back on and Gemini regains access to the apps you had connected.
- Open Customize > Connectors: on a computer in the sidebar (if it is missing, click “More” first), on a phone from Menu at the top.
- Find the app and choose “Add”, then follow the instructions. You can also type @ in a chat and pick the app: if it is not connected, Gemini connects it or asks permission.
- To switch it off, go back to Connectors, find the app and choose “More options” > “Disconnect”.
A shopping list with Gemini and Google Keep
Gemini can create a list in Google Keep or add items to an existing one; afterwards it is an ordinary Keep list (Google, 21 October 2026).
- Connect Google Workspace as above, with the same account as Keep.
- Ask for the list: write, for example, “Create a list of the [items] in Keep” (Google suggests wording of this kind) or @ and pick Google Keep. To get started: a list made with AI or dictated by voice.
- Add items to an existing list by asking Gemini to add them there.
- Check it: open the list from the link under the answer or choose “Undo” in the notification; Gemini can make mistakes or give outdated information.
- Mark the shopping day: add “Add this to my calendar” to the prompt (an example from Google) and Gemini creates the event in your default calendar.
According to Google, Gemini cannot share notes and lists (sharing is done in Keep). In the list of Connected Apps, the grocery-shopping app is marked for the US and English only.
What does Gemini see, and how long are the data kept?
| Setting | Effect according to Google | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| “Keep Activity” on | Chats and shared content stay in your Activity; Google uses them to improve its services, including training models, and some chats are reviewed by human reviewers. | gemini.google.com, “Activity” |
| Auto-delete | Default 18 months; choose 3 or 36 months, or none. Chats seen by reviewers are kept for up to three years. | “Activity”, “Choose an auto-delete option” |
| “Keep Activity” off | Future chats do not appear in Activity and do not train the models unless you send feedback; kept for 72 hours, like temporary chats. | “Activity”, “Turn off” |
| Disconnecting an app | Does not delete anything from your Gemini Activity; the app keeps the data it already received under its own policy. | Customize > Connectors, “More options” > “Disconnect” |
The Privacy Hub names Google Ireland Limited as the provider of the Gemini apps in the European Economic Area and Switzerland, and asks you not to enter confidential information you would not want a reviewer to see. What data promises mean: guide to AI data and servers.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I connect Google Keep to Gemini?
Keep is connected together with the other services of the Google Workspace app: open Customize > Connectors, find Google Workspace, choose “Add” with the same account as Keep and keep “Keep Activity” on. Then ask Gemini to create a list in Keep or to add items to an existing one (Google, 21 October 2026).
Does Gemini work in Switzerland?
According to Google, yes: the availability page for the Gemini web app (21 October 2026) lists Switzerland among the countries and German, French, Italian and English among the languages, and the mobile app can be downloaded from Google Play in Switzerland too. For Connected Apps, Google adds that availability varies by location, language, device and Gemini app.
Does Gemini read my emails?
Only if the Google Workspace app is connected (you can check under Customize > Connectors): then you can ask it to search and summarise information in Gmail, Docs and Drive (Google, 21 October 2026). Google warns that Gemini can be wrong or give outdated information, for example from an older email, and that it cannot access comments or images in Docs or Gmail. With a work or school account, the administrator must enable the feature first.
How do I disconnect an app from Gemini?
Open Customize > Connectors, find the app, choose “More options” > “Disconnect” and follow the instructions (Google, 21 October 2026). Disconnecting does not delete your Gemini Activity, which you delete under “Activity”, and the app keeps the data it already received under its own policy.
Will Rappn connect to Gemini?
Not today: Rappn does not connect to Gemini or to other AI assistants; the app shows the current promotions of seven Swiss retailers and alerts you when a product you follow goes on offer. Rappn is building an AI assistant for groceries, and a Rappn connector for AI assistants is in development: the waitlist is in the section “Groceries and connected apps: what exists today”.
