Which labels does Naturaplan carry?
Almost the entire Naturaplan range carries the Bio Suisse Bud (Knospe) — Switzerland's strictest mainstream organic standard, considerably tougher than the EU-organic minimum. Since 2016 there is also a Demeter (biodynamic) line. This is the main difference from Migros Bio: for imported organic products, Migros Bio sometimes meets only the EU-organic standard, whereas Naturaplan sticks more consistently to the Bud.
What does Naturaplan cost — and why?
Organic costs more, and how much more depends on the benchmark: against standard conventional the premium is noticeable; against the cheapest budget lines (Prix Garantie, M-Budget) it is bigger still. Among the chains, Naturaplan is the broadest but most expensive organic range; at Aldi and Lidl organic is up to about 25% cheaper (source: Tagesanzeiger). In 2023 the Swiss Price Watchdog calculated that consumers overpay roughly CHF 100 million a year on organic, and recommended organic sit no more than about 20% above comparable conventional. One reason for the premium: Coop and Migros pay Bud licence fees that the discounters avoid.
Quality and animal welfare
On quality Naturaplan scores strongly: the WWF label guide rates it "Excellent" with top marks in all four areas including animal welfare, and Swiss Animal Protection (STS) places Naturaplan poultry in the top category of its "Eat with Heart" rating. Housing, transport and slaughter are checked unannounced by STS.
