Château Pape Clément is one of the oldest wineries in Bordeaux and looks back on over 700 years of history. The origins of the estate date back to the 13th century, when Bertrand de Goth, later Pope Clément V, had the first vines planted in Pessac. Since then, wine has been produced continuously on the same plots, which gives the château a unique historical significance. The soils consist of clayey gravel deposits from the Pliocene and Quaternary periods – ideal conditions for structured, long-lived wines. Château Pape Clément is committed to sustainable vineyard work with Terra-Vitis and HVE-3 certification as well as additional environmental labels such as the Bee-Friendly seal. Plot-by-plot management, greening, selective thinning, and manual harvesting in small crates ensure the highest grape quality. Traditional techniques such as the use of horses for soil cultivation complement modern precision work.
