Description

Esporão is the first wine of the estate, produced in 1985 exclusively from Herdado de Esperão grapes. A classic red wine cuvée made from Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, Trincadeira, and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties, reflecting the consistency and personality of the terroir. The vines from which the fruit comes have an average age of 20 years and grow on granite and slate-rich soils with a clay and loam structure. Each of these varieties was vinified separately. First, the grapes were destemmed, crushed, and subjected to alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation also took place in stainless steel tanks. The resulting must was stored for twelve months in American and French oak barrels and for another eight months in the bottle. This wine is suitable for those very special moments in life and will continue to evolve as it ages in the bottle.
